Sahina & Eric

Sahina and Eric said their vows in the backyard of Eric’s family home in Long Island, an escape from the sounds of the city to a quiet, coastal peace. I began the day taking photos of the bride and groom getting ready; Sahina at a bed and breakfast nearby and Eric at the house. Sahina was cool as a cucumber, not letting anything penetrate her aura of calm on her big day. The same could be said for Eric, who was so relaxed that I found him at the house still in a white tank and a baseball hat; beer in hand.

When Eric decided its time to put on the rest of his ensemble, he was disappointed when he realized his attempts at tying his tie didn’t look quite right. He laughed and said, “I was hoping that the one day I was going to tie my own tie was on my wedding day.” But if he had been able to tie his own tie I wouldn’t have gotten these precious shots of both his parents helping him get ready. How many people does it take to tie a tie?

I can already tell at this point that Eric and his father are birds of a feather. Both jokesters; hilarious and light hearted. Soon after this I had the pleasure of meeting Sahina’s father, who shared her kind face and bright smile. The apples did not fall far from their trees.

Guests were greeted with a glass of champagne, a raw seafood bar, and a gorgeous veggie platter. Sahina’s father got to see her in her dress for the first time and capturing this gave me teary eyes.

The ceremony was simple and beautiful, with Eric celebrating his Jewish heritage by breaking glass at its close. Something became very apparent to me through talking with the bride and groom’s community and through listening to their vows: Sahina and Eric are one of those couples that just knew. They had been inseparable from the day they met, and their deep love was obvious in this ceremony. Every word spoken was meaningful, every gesture intentional.

I could tell that these two kept some really great people around them! Everyone was overjoyed to see these two finally hitched.

After the ceremony, I let these two have a few moments to themselves away from the crowds to bask in the joy of what they just did together as well to get some gorgeous portraits.

Before and during dinner they got free Haiku’s from the Haikuists, poets who get to know each of your guests and write personalized poems for them! Each of these poems felt so special and sentimental; a unique keepsake that every guest will want to keep for a long time.

Speeches were incredibly emotional, given by Sahina’s friends and Eric’s family. Eric’s father, true to form, ignored his son’s pleas to “Please behave” and started his speech with a Biden/Trump joke to which Eric yelled, “THAT’S YOUR OPENING LINE??”. The night concluded with dancing, signing of the contract, and eating cake!

There’s a song that has always reminded me of Sahina and Eric ever since their wedding day. “Margaret” by Lana Del Rey captures the tranquility and the sentiment of this day so thoroughly I can’t help but think of them and smile whenever I hear this song. “When you know you know…”
